it's hard to read this

"There are some upon this earth of yours," returned the Spirit, "who lay claim to know us, and who do their deeds of passion, pride, ill-will, hatred, envy, bigotry, and selfishness in our name, who are as strange to us, and all our kith and kin, as if they had never lived. Remember that, and charge their doings on themselves, not us."

and not think of some present-day hypocrites who claim to be Christians and yet act in hateful ways

The descriptions are so ebullient!! Every item’s details shared with love and joy. And then that final parting shot:

"There are some upon this earth of yours," returned the Spirit, "who lay claim to know us, and who do their deeds of passion, pride, ill-will, hatred, envy, bigotry, and selfishness in our name, who are as strange to us, and all our kith and kin, as if they had never lived. Remember that, and charge their doings on themselves, not us."

Some things never change. This Spirit can open many eyes if people choose to listen, to learn. But then that clearly is what Dickens is all about. All those years ago and he could see so clearly the fractures in society brought on by greed and a distinct lack of love.
