It's so interesting that the ghost only calls out after Scrooge had opened the door. This seems like a first test, to check whether he is now ready to change.

Reminds me of a G. K. Chesterton sentence (which is a good thing, in my book)

“To-night, if you have aught to teach me, let me profit by it."

It’s interesting that the word choice is “profit” since we know that Scrooge is obsessed with money and what he can gain. Is he looking to change or looking for a way to gain something?
