Living in ignorance would have been so much easier for him, but even if he didn’t see the cost it still would have existed
The poor kids are much like many of the real ones who struggled to survive in 19th century (and which Dickens himself was, briefly, in his own childhood).

It makes me crazy how this two page exert goes from showing the best parts of humanity, the joy and community, to the worst
